Can you plant new grass in summer and if so, what type is best for Paulding County - we have partial shade. Also, would we cover it with hay straw and is ashes good to spread on the yard before seeding?

-Debbie

Mid May thru mid August is prime time for warm season grasses such as Bermuda, Centipede and Zoysia. Results are dependent on the amount of shade, 6 hours of sunlight minimum even for shade tolerant varieties. Covering with wheat straw will help retain moisture and prevent erosion. The ashes are fine in moderation.
